Team K9® Harness Sizing Guide

Getting the size right is the difference between a harness that stays put on a strong puller and one that shifts, rubs, or lets your dog slip a shoulder. The good news: Team K9 harness sizing runs on your dog's weight, so you probably already have the answer.

Quick answer: Find your dog's weight in the chart below and pick that size. If your dog sits at the very top of a range, or is still growing, choose the next size up. The adjustable straps cover the in-between.

Not sure what your dog weighs?

1
Check your last vet visit. Weight is recorded at almost every appointment, and recent is fine. Adult dogs rarely move a full size class between checkups.
2
Use the bathroom scale trick. Weigh yourself, then weigh yourself holding your dog, and subtract. It works for any dog you can safely pick up.
3
For big dogs, stop by a pet store. Most large pet stores have a free walk-on scale near the front, and it doubles as a confidence-building outing.
Between sizes? Size up. The adjustable straps let you snug a slightly larger harness down to fit, but a harness that is too small has nowhere to go. Puppies still filling out should also get the larger size.

When the harness arrives: the 2-minute fit check

1
Set the straps before the first walk. Clip all four quick-release buckles and adjust each strap so the harness sits level across the chest and back without sagging.
2
Use the two-finger rule. You should be able to slide two flat fingers under any strap. Looser than that invites shifting; tighter can rub.
3
Watch the first few minutes. A well-fitted harness stays centered when your dog pulls, shakes, or sits. If it rotates or slides, snug the side straps and check again.

Straps loosening over time? See our guide on how to keep harness straps from slipping, or the full Team K9 Harness Guide for adjustment and first-walk training.

Sizing questions we hear most

What if my dog is between two sizes?

Choose the larger size. The adjustable straps can take in extra room, but an undersized harness cannot be stretched. This also applies to puppies that have not finished growing.

Do the Upgraded and Classic harnesses use the same sizes?

No. The weight ranges differ between the two models, and the Upgraded harness adds an Extra-Small for dogs from 15 LB. Always check the chart for the specific harness you are ordering.

How tight should the harness be?

Snug enough that it stays centered when your dog moves, loose enough to slide two flat fingers under every strap. Recheck after the first walk, since new straps can settle slightly.

What if the size I ordered does not fit?
