The beginning
It started with one yellow lab.
I was 10 years old when Amber came home, and I was instantly obsessed. I checked out Dog Training for Dummies from the library and taught her to sit, stay and give paw. She was grateful for the treats. I was grateful for the kind of companionship only a dog can give.
Years later, walking other people's dogs showed me the same thing over and over. The love I had for Amber was not unusual. It was everywhere.
So were the problems. One friend's dog pulled so hard that every walk started with choking and frustration. Another friend's car was a disaster in the way only dog people understand: hair in the seats, muddy paws, scratches, and a dog sliding around in the back. Those two problems are where our harness and our seat cover came from.
Team K9 grew the way a family business does. An 18-year-old part-time freelancer became our Head of Growth. My college roommate became Head of Community. My brother became Head of Operations. We are family, friends and dog lovers, and we still treat the work that way.
The dogs are the face of this company. Hers was the first.

We make name patches for harnesses, so we made a set for ourselves. These are the rules we run on.

If it wouldn't hold up for our own dogs, it doesn't ship. We call that the Amber Standard.

Mud, hair, pulling and long drives. Gear gets judged on its worst day, so that is the day we design for.

Questions about fit, an order or a buckle go to someone on our team. Most get an answer in 1 to 2 business days.

Nobody here wrote a rule for any of this. It's what we would want someone to do for our own dogs, so we do it when we get the chance.

Harness size exchanges are free for 60 days and we cover shipping both ways. If you are between sizes before you order, ask us and we will help you measure.
What if we just don't like it?
